Cops and Karens

Cops and Karens is a community-driven neighborhood awareness tool that allows users to share and view crowdsourced, real-time reports on local conditions.

Information We Collect

Location Information

We collect precise location data while the app is in use to display your position on the map, center the map, place reports, and deliver local alerts. We do not collect location data when the app is closed.

User Reports & Content

When you submit a report, we collect: report type, location coordinates, timestamp, expiration time, optional note, rider handle (if provided), and activity counts (e.g., "still there" confirmations).

Account & Identifier Information

You may use the app anonymously. Firebase Authentication creates an anonymous user ID to associate your reports and preferences. If you sign in with an account, we may store your email and authentication details.

Profile Information

Optional rider handle or profile picture (if added).

Alert & Notification Settings

Neighborhood preferences, alert areas, and push notification tokens.

Feedback & Disclaimer Acceptance

Messages you send us and records of disclaimer acceptance.

How We Use the Information

To operate the map and alerts, display reports, maintain the service, prevent abuse, respond to feedback, and improve the app.

Sharing of Information

Reports are publicly visible to other users in the area.

You should have no expectation of privacy for any reports or notes you submit.

We do not sell personal information.

We may share data with service providers (Firebase, Apple) as necessary to operate the app.

We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of users or the public.

Data Storage & Security

Data is stored using Firebase services. We implement reasonable security measures, but no system is completely secure.

Data Retention

Active reports expire from the map after a short time (typically ~30 minutes). Historical records may be retained longer for moderation, abuse prevention, or legal compliance. You can request deletion of your account data where technically feasible.

Your Choices & Rights

Use the app anonymously.

Disable location or notifications in device settings (some features may not work).

Delete your own reports.

Request account deletion (if signed in).

Children's Privacy

This app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. We will notify users of material changes and update the Effective Date.
